Flagstaff Junior Academy

On Wednesday June 4th I presented and then led bird walks at four of Lou's English classes, where they were finishing up a unit on birds. The students - 5th and 6th graders - were quite knowledgeable about birds and although the earlier classes were easily distracted by dead fish and half-eaten frogs we got to see 14 species of bird. The third class (11:15-12:15) were the luckiest and we saw an Osprey hit the water three times. It was third time lucky for the bird who flew off with a fish. After lunch the 1:00-2:00 class got to see a pair of Pygmy Nuthatches taking food into their nest hole.
