On Friday January 10th I did my usual route for the bald eagle count and I managed two adult birds this year, one at Lake Elaine and one at the Walnut Canyon Ponds. This was a little disappointing as we saw eagles in 6 places on the CBC - of course these were likely not 6 different birds. I did see an immature bald eagle near Little America on January 2nd and he was nowhere to be seen.
Walnut Canyon was a big disappointment. I drove all the way out there to find a helicopter being used to drop some heavy machinery into the canyon, and hardly a bird in sight! The only bird seen at the rim was a single Townsend's Solitaire.
